Goosebumps and the resulting condition known as Keratosis pilaris,

occur due to the accumulation of naturally occurring keratin protein within the layers of the skin. This buildup, caused by several factors, hinders the natural release of hair, causing it to become trapped within the skin and manifest as bumps, giving the skin an uneven texture and appearance. Hair can also take an incorrect path beneath the skin, leading to inflamed bumps that leave dark-colored marks, known as Keratosis pilaris.

To minimize and alleviate this condition as much as possible, the following can be followed:

  • Laser hair removal is considered the best method to overcome this problem.
  • Shaving the surface of the skin is usually recommended to preserve the natural hair path as much as possible.
  • Exfoliating the affected skin once or twice a week using physical methods (grain scrubs or Moroccan loofah) or chemical exfoliants such as fruit acids or 10% or higher concentrations of urea or derivatives of vitamin A, such as tretinoin.
  • 4- Consistently using a strong and effective moisturizer, both regularly and after each shower, as moisturization helps facilitate the natural release of hair to the surface.

In general, Keratosis pilaris is a condition that becomes less prominent or aggravated depending on individual care and adherence to treatment steps.
